The Kings of Leon Have Created Their Own Genre

Leon Followill is one of the most popular traveling evangelists in the south, giving his boys something to work for as they get older. Leon has been a great inspiration to the boys, which is a big reason they are who they have become today. Throughout their childhood, they traveled — as a family — from state to state. This childhood taught the boys many valuable things, many of which they share in their music. The Kings of Leon are used to being on the road; after all, that is where they spent most of their childhood.

While many may think this much traveling could be harmful to a child — or children — it only brought these boys even closer together. The boys had to learn to study in different manners than most children, and were forced to use their creativity for entertainment. One thing the boys did — and still do = love was music; music was how they would pass many hours away. By the time the Kings of Leon were ready to be signed by RCA, their youngest brother was not quite ready. However, Jared and Caleb — the two eldest brothers — insisted that their brother, and the Cousin Matthew, be a part of the package. RCA knows talent when they see it and were not ready to give up a good thing over something so minor.

One thing, all four boys have in common, is that they all chose to go by their middle names rather than their first. While this is nothing special, depending on your culture, is something they all share. They all agreed that the name of the band would be something unique, and something that honored their grandfather and father, hence the Kings of Leon. To top this off, as if there isn’t enough originality here, the boys combined four different genres to make their unique, something that takes an ample amount of talent to do.

The release of their first album — Youth and Young Manhood — left many breathless. The music was so catchy that Rolling Stones Magazine gave the album 4 out of 5 stars. The boys are still young, so young — in fact — that they youngest of the three brothers — Jared — is still learning his way around a guitar. This has not stopped them; they continually work diligently to become the best at what they do. So far, this dedication is paying off. Actually, the release of their second album — Aha Shake Heartbreak — got the band attention from legends like Elvis Costello, Pearl Jam, and Bob Dylan. There’s not really much else to ask for.

The Kings of Leon have many things going for them, one of which being their energy. Whether you call their on stage performances energy or antics — like in Europe — they definitely have passion when they are on stage. The Kings of Leon started their North American Tour in Canada in September, went south to Texas, and came to a halt in Tennessee in October — with numerous stops on the way, of course.
